In this page we are going to compare architecture and Urban planning; their objectives and their pontis in common.

Architecture and Urban Planning are two very similar careers but they sometimes differ in specific points such as their purposes.
Mostly, Architecture is focused on designing shelters that provide protection from the elements to people, their activies and belongings. These shelters also have symbolic value, such as to represent society's rules, power, and to separate meanings in different spaces. Architecture haves communicative functions.

Architecture is in charge of providing a physical body to cultural meanings in a society. It helps to provide order, and to remind to each member of the society to remember "the rules" of the group they belong to. Architecture focuses, most of the time in the designing of particular objects, such as the buildings we know of today.

Urban Planning, also in charge of creating spaces, but in a wider value, focus on making shape of cities and towns. They work and design the order of the cities in long terms, and take care a lot about the context in which we develop our towns and metropolis.
This career, in difference with architecture, focuses more that in a single building and only a samll group of people. Urban planner's purposes are a lot wider tan architects purposes, but they need each other to make the best for everyone.

For example, Caracas stands very bad in both terms of architecture and urban planning, mostly in urban desings matters. Some architects have very good designs but don`t care about the context in which they develop their designs, and urban planners influence is the "structure" of our capital is very poor. The city actually needs a lot of work from architects and also urban planners to "humanize" it and make it a better living experience.
