In this page, we are going to summarize the major characteristics of stone, brick, iron, steel, and concrete.

Stone.
  • Rough and resistent material.
  • Can be used in natural shapes for construction.
  • Strong in terms of compression.
  • Weak in terms of high tensions.
  • Good but expensive material.
  • Many ways to be worked with, such as Ashlar Masonry and Rubble.

Brick.
  • Bricks are made of ceramic components.
  • There are many types of bricks; such as mud bricks, Rail Kins, Dry pressed bricks and others.
  • They are mostly used in interior decoration and construction.
  • Different methods of brick disposal in constructions. (Bricklaying Techiniques)

Iron & Steel.
  • Iron is an Expensive material in construction.
  • Strong in compression terms.
  • Iron can be molded in various shapes.
  • Steel is oftenly used in tall and large construction such as skycrapers and arch buildings.
  • Steel loses strengh in high temperatures.

Concrete.
  • It is a stonelike material, made by the mixture of water, cement and some type of sands.
  • Very strong in terms of Compression.
  • Very weak in terms of Tension.
  • There are many ways to work with concrete in construction issues, such as Concrete Shell constructions; Precast-concrete constructions, Prestressed concrete, and reinforced with steel concrete.
